"Eben Sadie says she loves making her 100% Grenache wine because the entire cellar is filled with its aromas of strawberry, cherry, and pomegranate!"
“On the nose, this extremely elegant and fragrant red wine reveals aromas of sliced strawberries, pomegranates, rose hips, orange peel, and wet stones. There are also notes of tart cherries. It is medium-bodied, very fresh and silky, with very fine, harmonious yet present tannins. The finish is lingering and briny. A beautiful expression of Grenache. Fermented and aged in concrete. Ready to drink now or for cellaring.” (James Suckling 2025)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
This is the first wine served during the tasting of The Sadie Family’s lineup. The Citrusdal Mountain Die Distriksreeks Soldaat 2024 offers an earthy yet fragrant expression of Grenache, with notes of tart cherry, pomegranate, and blue flowers, supported by soft yet firm tannins. Lively and finely structured, this wine combines ripeness shaped by intense sunshine with remarkable freshness, a result of its terroir at an elevation of 750 meters. Grown on quartzite and mudstone soils in the Citrusdal Mountains, the Soldaat exemplifies winemaker Eben Sadie’s quest for a Grenache cultivated on terroirs that offer plenty of light without excessive heat. It was a complex vintage, with little rain but less wind, which was a positive factor. The wine is aged exclusively in concrete tanks for 12 months. 2026–2038

About the wine:
The Soldaat 2024 is Sadie’s Grenache cuvée, with a slightly higher alcohol content than previous vintages, fermented and aged in concrete. This is evident on the nose, which is more generous, with notes that are a bit livelier than those of the 2023 vintage. Aromas of red cherries and cranberries. The palate is medium-bodied, with a tart attack, notes of red cherries, pomegranate, and crushed strawberries, and a slightly tannic finish. A charming Soldaat that will provide 12 to 15 years of enjoyment. 2025–2038
