“This Chenin Blanc, with its iron-rich and mineral structure, is somewhat reserved, revealing aromas of lemon zest, crushed stones, thyme, and pear. It is, however, compact, full of tension, and concentrated on the palate, with a medium- to full-bodied profile and lively acidity. I particularly appreciate its liveliness and minerality. About the wine:

The Sadie Family’s 2024 “Die Distriksreeks Rotsbank,” from Swartland, is the most mineral-driven and dense of the estate’s Chenin Blancs. It features a deep golden color, intense concentration, and a rigorous structure. The acidity gives the wine a precise, almost architectural structure that clearly reflects the terroir. Made from 39-year-old vines planted in the shallow, weathered granitic soils of Paardeberg, the Rotsbank exemplifies The Sadie Family’s quest for a Chenin Blanc defined by its “district,” or “distrik.” 2026–2040

About the wine:

The Rotsbank 2024 is made from Chenin grapes grown at the back of the estate; according to Sadie, it is the only one of the twelve vineyards he works with that exhibits mineral notes. It offers a lively nose, with subtle petrol notes—almost like a Riesling—that evolve into aromas of wet wool and lanolin as it opens up. Beautiful definition. The palate is very well-balanced, with lively acidity. Lively and savory on the palate, it gains depth and texture as it builds toward the long finish. Excellent. 2026–2046
