a classic

"This 1.4-hectare vineyard in the heart of the Piketberg Mountains is one of the oldest still in production in the Swartland: one of Sadie's rarest wines!"

“On the nose, this smooth, richly textured white wine reveals aromas of chamomile, thyme, grapefruit peel, mango, and vanilla bean. It is full-bodied, creamy, and enveloping. A delicious finish. A blend of Sémillon, Palomino, Chenin Blanc, and a touch of Muscat of Alexandria. From a mixed-varietal vineyard planted in 1887. Drink now or cellar.” (James Suckling 2025)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 96/100 (Extraordinary wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The Sadie family’s 2024 “Die Distriksreeks 'T Voetpad” from the Swartland is a blend of old vines with a deep character, composed of Chenin Blanc, Sémillon Blanc, Sémillon Gris, and Palomino, offering rich depth, hints of hay, and remarkable length. Although it is a white wine, it possesses the body and structure of a red wine, with a long, textured finish. Planted in 1887 on the Piketberg mountains and still cultivated as a true mixed-varietal vineyard, this 1.4-hectare site remains one of the oldest vineyards in production in the Swartland. It is a true “unicorn wine” of South Africa. 2026–2038
