Swartland
In Afrikaans, "Swartland "means "Black Land" ("Swart" for black and "Land" for land), a reference to the hills in the region where dark shrubs grow.

It is one of South Africa’s oldest wine regions. Eben Sadie settled there in 1997 and helped establish the reputation of the Swartland appellation as well as that of South Africa as a whole.

The climate is hot and dry, with soils composed of granite, schist, and sand.

Among white grape varieties, Chenin Blanc and Colombard (on a smaller scale) are the most widely grown. For red grape varieties, Syrah is the dominant variety. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Pinotage are also grown there.

The Swartland Revolution festival is held there every November, featuring various events and wine fairs.
