“This intriguing and aromatic red wine offers notes of smoked paprika, blackcurrant, bell peppers, licorice, rosemary, and Sichuan pepper. Hints of prickly pear are also detectable. It is lively, exotic, and crisp, medium-bodied to full-bodied, with tight, refined tannins. Wild, spicy, and powerful, yet refined. A blend of 12 grape varieties co-planted in a vineyard planted in 2019. The first bottling of this forward-looking wine. Drink now or keep." (James Suckling 2025)

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Wine rated (2026 guide) 95+/100 (Extraordinary wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The first vintage, the Sadie family’s “Die Distriksreeks Sonvang " 2024 from the Sadie family—whose name means "sun catcher"—is a wild, exotic, and deeply flavorful wine that reveals aromas of blood orange, fynbos, and sage, as well as subtle metallic and granitic notes, all within an expressive and deliberately raw structure. Made from a complex blend of Mediterranean grape varieties planted in mixed vineyards in roughly equal proportions, this wine prioritizes harmony between viticulture and terroir over cellar manipulation. The grape varieties used are Alicante Bouschet, Agiorgitiko, Pontac, Bastardo do Castillo, Trincadeira, Tinta Barroca, Lledoner Pelut, Grenache Noir, Pinotage, Cinsault, Counoise, and Carignan (with 30% whole clusters used for fermentation). Grown on the granite soils of Paardeberg and shaped by years of meticulous vineyard design, Sonvang embodies Eben Sadie’s vision of a distinctive African blend. This wine is the result of 20 years of work. “The goal was to plant the blend, not to create it,” he explains. 2027–2045

About the wine:
The first Sonvang 2024, a blend of grape varieties from Eben Sadie’s vineyard, undoubtedly offers one of the most exotic and original aromatic profiles, with notes of red berries, hickory, and flint… there is something almost volcanic about this wine. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with supple aromas of black berries, notes of white pepper, herbes de Provence, and black truffle. Wonderfully balanced, with a grainy texture, a lingering mouthfeel, and a persistent finish, this is an exceptional first vintage. 2027–2048
