"Made from vines planted in 1964 on hillsides, the 2011 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Hengst is off-dry and reveals a very distinct, fresh, and powerful bouquet with floral and fruity aromas. Rich, smooth, and lively on the palate, in a classic style, it is full-bodied with intense, fleshy fruit. It strikes a perfect balance between its 14.5% alcohol content, 20 grams of residual sugar, and a refreshing, mineral-driven finish that leaves spicy notes and a lively mouthfeel, yet without any sense of excess sugar. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’d love to pair it with Indian curry or blue cheeses. " (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker) Grand Cru!

Food and wine pairings
It pairs wonderfully with Asian cuisine, which makes creative use of spices. Curry and pepper are a perfect match. It goes well with cumin and hints of anise. Strong cheeses (Munster, Pont-l’Évêque, Bleu de Bresse, Maroilles) are ideal companions. It’s also worth trying with Creole and Mexican cuisine or duck à l’orange...
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2018 guide) 16,5/20 (Reference wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)
About wine:
The sweetness blends well thanks to the terroir’s minerality, which begins to take center stage—pure, straightforward, and elegant, with beautiful depth while remaining delicate.
About the estate:
Céline and Isabelle Meyer run the estate, long managed by their father Jean, with courage and discipline. Biodynamics shines through in their wines, which are light and refined, fresh and chiseled. The estate's two iconic grands crus are Hengst and Brand, where Riesling shines particularly brightly. Pinot Gris is part of a long tradition of dry wines, which are unfortunately not so common in Alsace.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2015 guide) 16/20 (Very good)
About wine:
Aromatic nose, with pronounced varietal characteristics, floral, exotic, and spicy notes, and lovely complexity. The attack on the palate is supple with a hint of sweetness, featuring aromas of rose and ripe apricot, well balanced by mineral notes, slightly alcoholic, with a peppery finish.
