Rated estate (2022 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

Céline and Isabelle Meyer run the estate, long managed by their father Jean, with courage and discipline. Biodynamics shines through in their wines, which are light and refined, fresh and chiseled. The estate's two iconic grands crus are Hengst and Brand, where Riesling shines particularly brightly. Pinot Gris is part of a long tradition of dry wines, which are unfortunately not so common in Alsace.

Wine rating (2022 guide) 93+/100 (Outstanding wine)

About wine:

Harvested on October 4 from three plots located at the top of the vineyard, the 2019 Grand Cru Hengst Riesling Samain fermented for three months and aged for an additional five months before being bottled at the end of June. While the Hengst in general focuses on the soil, the Samain focuses on altitude (or "the sky," as Isabelle puts it). The nose is very clear, fresh, and nomadic in its lemony terroir expression. Sumptuous and round on the palate, this is an intense Hengst, ripe and salty on the finish, with remarkable precision, finesse, and elegance. It is less massive than the classic Hengst, but very elegant and rather slender, linear but intense. 13.2% alcohol declared. Natural cork. Tasted at the estate in May 2022.

About wine:

In addition to its aromas of ripe grapefruit, orange, and persimmon, this imposing dry Riesling has a dark side that is particularly evident in its extremely structured finish. Very deep and complex. Still very young in its deep and bold finish. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now or cellar.
