“Created in memory of Jean Meyer, Un Certain Regard 2016 is a very elegant and refined Pinot Gris with a long, refined, and briny finish. It possesses astonishing finesse and salinity, with good structure and a long finish. Very briny and refined, it was bottled with six grams of residual sugar.” (Wine Advocate 2018 - Robert Parker) Cuvée Hommage!

Wine rated (2019 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

This dry-style Pinot Gris has a lovely briny character (it has 6g of residual sugar at 14% ABV); it is very clean and concentrated, with a tight, fairly compact texture. The finish is flavorful and briny.

About the estate:

Céline and Isabelle Meyer manage the estate—long led by their father Jean—with courage and discipline. Their biodynamic wines shine with their light, refined, fresh, and crisp profiles. The estate’s two flagship grands crus are the Hengst and the Brand, where the Riesling truly shines. Pinot Gris is part of a long tradition of dry wine, which is, unfortunately, not so common in Alsace.

Rated wine (2019 guide) 16/20 + Favorite (Very good wine)

About the wine:

This wine is a beautiful tribute to the father of Céline and Isabelle Meyer, who passed away in 2016. A Pinot Gris crafted in his image: "Straightforward yet full-bodied. Dry but not harsh." That says it all!

Review by Mr. JEAN-MARC D. Posted on April 24, 2021

Josmeyer's straightforward style is legendary, and patience is key. This Pinot Gris is still very tight. Its tension and minerality are remarkable. The fruit will come through more fully after a few years of cellaring. A great wine.
