“A rich, refined, and harmonious fragrance”

"Pale straw yellow. Lemon, minerals, licorice, and green apple on the nose, which is very precise, and a vibrant palate, complemented by notes of pear and strawberry tart. Dense, juicy, and full-bodied (6 g/L residual sugar and 5.5 g/L total acidity), still very young, it gives an impression of power, yet with particularly refined notes of green apple and pear tart that linger on the long, impactful finish. Wonderfully aromatic on the mid-palate thanks to its excellent acidity; no malolactic fermentation was carried out, which allows the green apple flavor to shine through.” (Vinous 2018). A must-have!

Wine rated 17/20 (Top-rated wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

The estate hadn't released this cuvée since 2010. It has a strong identity on the palate, with a vertical structure; the very slight residual sugar provides the balance needed to complement its pronounced minerality. Those willing to wait will be rewarded, even though the Brand from this grape variety seems more immediately accessible.

About the estate:

Céline and Isabelle Meyer manage the estate—long led by their father Jean—with courage and discipline. Their biodynamic wines shine with their light, refined, fresh, and crisp profiles. The estate’s two flagship grands crus are the Hengst and the Brand, where the Riesling truly shines. Pinot Gris is part of a long tradition of dry wine, which is, unfortunately, not so common in Alsace.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 93/100

About the wine:

South-east facing on flinty granite soil. Le Brand produces wines that are "regal yet lively, finely structured, pure, and crisp." The 2015 vintage offers rich Pinot Gris flavors and is ripe on the palate, firming up with acidity on the finish, making it a great wine for the table or the cellar.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 92+/100 (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

From a bottle opened a week earlier, the 2015 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Brand opens with a very delicate and fresh bouquet of ripe apples and precise smoky and stony notes. The grapes come from both the lower and upper parts of the vineyard, but were harvested together. On the palate, this is a dry Pinot Gris, very elegant and delicate, with an intense finish and stimulating minerality. The wine is highly concentrated yet straightforward, fresh, and firmly structured. Excellent aging potential.

A fine Pinot Gris that needs a few more years in the bottle before it can be fully appreciated
