Petit-Chablis
On both sides of the Serein Valley, the Petit-Chablis appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) was established in 1944. It forms one of the crowns of the Chablis region, in the Yonne department. This appellation can be produced in all the communes of the Chablis vineyards.
Petit-Chablis wines cultivate aromas of white flowers mixed with citrus notes on a mineral background. Sometimes peach and white fruits are also present. The palate is generally lively and light, with balanced acidity. This enthusiastic attack is followed by a pleasant roundness. Its iodine notes are characteristic of the region. Its richness complements its freshness to offer the palate a lingering and perfectly composed sensation. Petit-Chablis is best enjoyed young, but waiting two years is ideal. Petit-Chablis enthusiasts will particularly appreciate the wines offered by Domaine William Fèvre or La Chablisienne.

Petit Chablis: a great white wine
Petit Chablis white wine has an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) designation. It is a wine from the northern part of Burgundy. Made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, this wine has a bright, light gold color with green highlights.
On the nose, Petit Chablis reveals aromas of white flowers such as acacia and hawthorn, combined with citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon. A mineral undertone enhances this festival of subtle flavors. It is not uncommon to find notes of white fruits such as peach.
On the palate, Petit Chablis is lively and light, a subtle combination! It then develops a distinct roundness on the palate. Its richness leaves a delicious, lingering fruity sensation. Iodine aromas can also characterize Petit Chablis, which flourishes in vineyards that are actually very far from the coast.
Petit Chablis is a dry white wine that can be classified as a still wine, meaning that it does not form bubbles when the bottle is opened. There is no second fermentation stage.
Perfect pairings with Petit Chablis
The salty aromas of this Petit Chablis white wine pair perfectly with seafood. It is also an ideal wine to accompany goat cheese or a fruity Gruyère, and even a strong-flavored Gouda. Petit Chablis can be served as an aperitif or with summer salads that subtly blend greens and sparkling fruit.
The ideal temperature for serving and enjoying a Petit Chablis is 13°C. For wine lovers, we recommend enjoying it in a Burgundy white wine glass. Pour no more than 10 cl so that you can appreciate every note and aroma of the Petit Chablis.
Geographical characteristics and climatic conditions
Petit Chablis white wine comes from the vineyards of Chablis and Grand Auxerrois. The production area reached 1,100 hectares in 2018.
The vineyards flourish at the top of the hillside or at the foot of the plateau at an average altitude of between 230 and 280 meters, on either side of the lush Serein valley. The soil is calcareous, even loamy, and sandy in some places.
In terms of climate, this valley enjoys a temperate oceanic climate with continental tendencies. The amount of sunshine received by the Chablis vineyards is slightly below the national average.
The Petit Chablis AOC
This Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) has existed since 1944. It encompasses vineyards located on both sides of the Serein Valley, in the Yonne department. Petit Chablis shares its terroir with other AOCs such as Chablis Grand Cru and Village Chablis Premier Cru.
Among all Chablis wines, Petit Chablis accounts for around 19% of production. It also benefits from the European Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) label.
