Ratings: Gault Millau 16/20, RVF 16/20, Bettane & Desseauve 15/20
“Les Cras” comes from the word “chalk” and reflects the nature of the subsoil in this vineyard near Volnay. A refined and structured wine, opening with an expressive and complex nose, a dense and rich palate, and a refined and elegant finish. “Beautiful color, excellent nose of red fruit, elegant texture, supple tannins; a wine that confirms the estate’s success in 2007.” (Le Grand Guide des Vins de France 2010 - Bettane & Desseauve)

About the estate:
An historic estate, first mentioned in the 18th century, now covering 24 hectares. At the helm are Roger Belland, who took over in 1981; his daughter Julie, who joined in 2003 and oversees winemaking; and their new partner, Martin Boyer. No certified organic production here, but sustainable and carefully managed viticulture (full grass cover in the vineyard, no herbicides), and wines of great consistency.
