“The Les Charmes vineyard shares with Meursault the distinction of being divided into Charmes du Dessous and Charmes du Dessus. Here, a simply named ‘Charmes’ hails from a beautiful 1.15-hectare plot, offering a bouquet of ripe black fruits accented by a hint of pepper. The fruit is accompanied by subtle oak in a full-bodied, well-structured palate. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2021) From old vines planted in 1971, the Santenay Charmes presents lovely concentrated fruit with notes of morello cherry and blackcurrant, complemented by a hint of licorice. The wine is round and generous, offering immediate pleasure!

About the wine:
Like Meursault, the Charmes vineyard is unique in that it is divided into the lower and upper sections. Here, we have a Charmes “plain and simple,” produced from a beautiful 1.15-hectare plot that offers a bouquet of ripe black fruits accented by a hint of pepper. The fruit is complemented by subtle oak notes in a full-bodied, well-structured palate.
About the estate:
A historic estate, first mentioned in the 18th century, now covering 24 hectares. At the helm are Roger Belland, who took over in 1981; his daughter Julie, who joined in 2003 and oversees winemaking; and their new partner, Martin Boyer. No certified organic production here, but sustainable and carefully managed viticulture (full grass cover in the vineyard, no herbicides), and wines of great consistency.

About the wine:
A subtle hint of sour cherry promises freshness on the nose of this wine. On the palate, this bright, tangy fruit also comes through, supported by a slender, slightly crisp body, with a refreshing honesty and liveliness.
