"A bold character for this Faugères with its delightful wild notes"

“The highest possible score for this Syrah (the primary grape), vinified using the infusion method, and utterly captivating. Refined, pure, and complex, the nose oscillates between black fruits, spices, and aromatic herbs. Round and fresh, the wine flows deliciously over barely perceptible tannins and lingers on spicy notes in the finish. A finely crafted, delicate, and simply delicious Faugères.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026).

Rated estate (2026 guide): 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

The perfect choice for anyone who wants to discover fine Languedoc wines that remain true to their terroir. Jérôme Joseph and Laurent Calmel are wine merchants without their own cellars. They age the selected vintages at the wineries from which they purchase them, respecting the original flavors and terroirs. A wide, delightful selection featuring many excellent wines and a few stunning surprises.

About the wine:

About the estate:

Laurent Calmel, an oenologist, teamed up with Jérôme Joseph to found a wine merchant firm in 1995 that specializes in terroir-driven wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The duo launched their own label in 2007. They select the vineyards, vinify the grapes, and age the wines.

Review and comment by Mr. GILLES D. Published on February 7, 2026

Slightly rustic, this Faugères—both concentrated and taut—derives its originality from a blend of ripe and very fresh fruit with spices, enhanced by a hint of licorice and smoky notes, all wrapped in discreet, refined tannins. The finish has moderate mineral length. It doesn’t quite win me over, precisely because of its slightly too “wild” character and its loose, very minty texture, which is slightly drying. A distinctive wine, best paired with spicy Mediterranean cuisine. Rating = 3.4.
