"A taste of Côte-Rôtie"

A blend of 75% Syrah and 15% Grenache, Artemia 2018 is aged in oak, 40% of which is new. This cuvée is largely un-destemmed and remains the northernmost wine in the range. A bouquet of smoky black fruits, smoked meat, violet, ground pepper, and bacon fat, similar to a Hermitage, gives way to a medium-bodied to full-bodied red, elegant and harmonious with ample fruit, ripe tannins, and a beautiful finish. This is undoubtedly an exceptional wine. "(Jeb Dunnuck)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This family-run estate, now in its third generation, produces a wide range of structured wines on some 70 hectares, in a modern and ambitious style that places them among the must-haves of Ventoux. Now managed by Frédéric and Alexandre Chaudière, the vineyard has nine grape varieties grown on clay-limestone slopes at an altitude of 300 meters. The wines are vinified with great care.

Rated estate (2023 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Acquired in 1970 by Odette and René Bastide, this vast 100-hectare estate, which produces consistent quality wines, has been run since 2003 by the third generation (Frédéric and Alexandre Chaudière). The entire vineyard is certified organic and is currently converting to biodynamic farming.

Wine rating (2020 guide) 92-94/100 (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

An impressive potential blend of equal parts barrels, demi-muids, and vats. Artemia 2018 presents exuberant notes of cherries and blueberries accented by assertive hints of crushed pepper. It is full-bodied, creamy, and lush, then firms up just enough on the finish to suggest it will have a decade of longevity.

Wine rated (2021 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking and, as such, all the estates listed in it, even those without stars, represent, in our opinion, the excellence of French production.)

About wine:

The nose reveals lovely primary fruit. A fresh palette. The palate is opulent, with high-quality substance; it is denser without being rustic. A wine that will require a little more time. Freshness is present and the tannins are well-coated.

About the estate:

The history of this estate began in the 1970s, when the Chaudière grandparents restored the château and part of the vineyard. Paul and Edith then gave it new impetus by leaving the cooperative and focusing on terroir selection. Since 2000, their sons Frédéric and Alexandre have been overseeing the destiny of this vast vineyard. We are impressed by the stylistic shift in the wines: they have really gained in finesse and flavor, and are a worthy representation of the freshness of the terroir.
