“A deep, luminous garnet color harmonizes with exquisite aromas of forest floor, moss, mushrooms, and licorice. On the palate, one is surprised by the richness of the flavors, the balance, and the velvety texture—imbued with black fruit—that envelops a well-integrated tannic structure. The lingering finish is another major strength. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

Wine rated (2022 guide) 3* "Coup de Coeur " (Exceptional Wine)

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Award-Winning Wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

A deep, luminous garnet color harmonizes with exquisite aromas of forest floor, moss, mushrooms, and licorice. On the palate, one is struck by the richness of the flavors, the balance, and the velvety texture—imbued with black fruit—that envelops a well-integrated tannic structure. The lingering finish is another major asset.

About the estate:

The estate’s origins, spanning six generations, date back to 1864. The property boasts a 25-hectare vineyard spread across diverse terroirs. At the helm since 1989, Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil have been producing wines with strong character—both dry and naturally sweet—for nearly 30 years. In 2017, they sold the estate to a young couple of winemakers, Élodie and Matthieu Collet.

An extraordinary nose of plum, cherry, wild berries, and leather. The attack is quite lively, and the alcohol is a bit too noticeable, but the tannins are well-structured and the aromatic intensity remains excellent. I think a few years in the bottle will soften it and turn it into an exceptional wine.

Review by Mr. GILLES D. Published on January 27, 2023

A wine with a strong personality and a vigorous, lively character, built on a solid, deep structure where well-integrated tannins come through, accompanied by a beautiful concentration of black fruit, spices, and toasted oak. The finish is just as intense and tannic, with an added hint of bitterness. Undoubtedly a fine wine, but one that, in my opinion, lacks a bit of subtlety and finesse, and whose price seems somewhat ambitious. Suitable for long-term aging. After two hours of decanting, this powerful, mature wine paired perfectly with the spicy paprika flavors of beef Stroganoff and basmati rice. Rating = 3.8.

A very good wine. It truly deserves its three stars in the Hachette guide. A wonderful discovery.

A very fine wine, with well-integrated oak and aromas of forest floor, garrigue, and black fruits. It would have deserved a 4.5/5, but that’s impossible…
