"What a burst of flavors in this vibrant cuvée!"
"This cuvée is made from equal parts Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache and offers aromas of leather, pepper, and red fruits soaked in brandy. On the palate, it is full-bodied, generous, and round, infused with ripe fruit and licorice, and supported by fine tannins that linger on the finish." (Le Guide Hachette 2023)

About the wine:
This cuvée is made from equal parts Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache and offers aromas of leather, pepper, and red fruits infused with brandy. On the palate, it is full-bodied, generous, and round, with notes of ripe fruit and licorice, and a long finish supported by fine tannins.
About the estate:
The estate’s origins, spanning six generations, date back to 1864. The property boasts a 25-hectare vineyard spread across diverse terroirs. At the helm since 1989, Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil have been producing wines with strong character for nearly 30 years, including both dry and naturally sweet wines. In 2017, they sold the estate to a young couple of winemakers, Élodie and Matthieu Collet.

About the wine:
A dense core with a purplish hue. Pure and fragrant, with notes of pepper and dried spices combined with ripe wild berries and plums. On the palate, it displays maturity and density but remains medium-bodied and easy to drink, with a pleasant sense of freshness, a rounded body, and a long, flavorful finish.

Striking purple color with a ruby rim. On the nose: dark fruit, pepper, green herbs, some reductive notes. On the palate, too, dark notes, dark fruit, slightly cooked and reductive, peppery, ink, earthy, lovage. Soft tannins, bay leaf and licorice, concentration, power, and masculine impressions. It will pair well with spicy stews. Still fairly compact. Needs some aeration; then it will show a friendlier, more open character. Score: 15.5/20

Very well made, with great aromas and a long finish; it might be a 5 by the time I open the next bottle.

Review and comment by Mr. GILLES D. Published on August 12, 2024
Power, opulence, and elegance all come together on the palate, along with a juicy, rich body that blends red fruits, sweet spices, and a hint of zan, framed by a tannic structure with restrained power that lingers into a long, silky finish, full of subtle freshness. A wine that, even in its youth, shows great aging potential. Its robust character, combined with a lovely roundness, already came into its own when paired with pan-seared Catalan pork trotters and chorizo piperade. Rating = 4.
