Robert Parker

“Élodie and Matthieu Collet have taken over from Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil in fine style and are producing wines that have lost none of their personality. Here, they offer a superb tank-fermented blend of Grenache Noir and Mourvèdre. Brilliant in its intense purple hue, this 2016 boasts a devilishly seductive nose of red currant, blueberry, and pepper, evolving toward toasty and leathery notes. On the palate, it is rich, full-bodied, and flavorful, supported by a powerful yet velvety tannic structure with a fine, elegant texture. It shows great aging potential.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019)

About the estate:

The estate’s origins, spanning six generations, date back to 1864. The property boasts a 25-hectare vineyard spread across diverse terroirs. At the helm since 1989, Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil have been producing wines with strong character—both dry and naturally sweet—for nearly 30 years. In 2017, they sold the estate to a young couple of winemakers, Élodie and Matthieu Collet.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 90/100 (Excellent wine)

About the wine:

This 2016 Maury Sec is a blend of Grenache (80%) and Mourvèdre (20%), aged in tanks. It’s no longer just a simple, fruit-forward wine. It’s full of black fruit with a hint of raspberry, as well as subtle spicy notes and dark chocolate. This wine is full-bodied and ripe with supple tannins, and is ready to enjoy now.
