About the wine:

This cuvée is made from equal parts Carignan, Syrah, and Grenache, with aromas of leather, pepper, and red fruits soaked in brandy. On the palate, it is full-bodied, generous, and round, infused with ripe fruit and licorice, and supported by fine tannins that linger on the finish.

About the estate:

The estate’s origins, spanning six generations, date back to 1864. The property boasts a 25-hectare vineyard spread across diverse terroirs. At the helm since 1989, Pierre and Marie-Claude Fontaneil have been producing wines with strong character—both dry and naturally sweet—for nearly 30 years. In 2017, they sold the estate to a young couple of winemakers, Élodie and Matthieu Collet.

A dense core with a purplish hue. Pure and fragrant, with notes of pepper and dried spices combined with ripe wild berries and plums. On the palate, it displays maturity and density but remains medium-bodied and easy to drink, with a pleasant sense of freshness, a rounded texture, and a long, flavorful finish.

Striking purple color with a ruby rim. On the nose: dark fruit, pepper, green herbs, some reductive notes. On the palate, too, dark notes: dark fruit, slightly cooked and reductive, peppery, ink, earthy, and lovage. Soft tannins, bay leaf and licorice, concentration, power, and masculine impressions. It will pair well with a spicy stew. Still fairly compact. Needs some aeration; once aerated, it becomes a bit friendlier and more open. Score: 15.5/20
