Bettane & Desseauve

"A grape variety for enthusiasts"

“This wine has a fairly complex nose of red fruits and blackcurrant, and a structure built on fine tannins.” (The Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide). A red wine with aromas of fresh plum, licorice, and spices, offering roundness and body on the palate, with great concentration and typicity!

Wine rated (2020 guide) 14/20 (Good wine)

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

Leather and notes of parchment come to the fore as soon as this 2015 is opened; it is strongly recommended that you decant it.

About the estate:

The Plageoles family has left its mark on the recent history of wine in Gaillac. Robert, followed by Bernard and Myriam—who brilliantly carried on his legacy—were pioneers in championing local grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques. The next generation is gradually taking the reins through Bernard’s sons, Florent and Romain, who are wholeheartedly dedicated to the twelve varieties in their vineyard, including the delicious Prunelart, the extremely rare Verdanel, and the quartet of Mauzac (green, red, pink, and black). Unconcerned with trends and off the beaten path, the estate continues to produce, with the utmost care, exclusively single-varietal wines endowed with strong personalities. This work of the mind, heart, and hands is fully reflected in a range of wines that strive for purity, integrity, and originality.

A pleasant wine with a unique flavor that’s full of charm. Like other local grape varieties, this Prunelard is well worth exploring. Diversity is a source of richness and enjoyment.
