“Blended from 14 grape varieties sourced from 17 vineyards in the Swartland: a treasure with very limited stock and one of Eben Sadie’s favorite vintages”
“Very fresh and exciting, it reveals aromas of lemon cream, wild thyme, white pepper, sliced apple, pear, clove, and crushed stone. It is layered and creamy, complex, with a full body and wonderful freshness brought by mineral notes and very subtle herbaceous nuances. Long, salty, and structured. A blend of 14 grape varieties. Ready to drink or for aging.” (James Suckling 2025)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 98/100 (Exceptional)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The Sadie Family 2023 Swartland Palladius displays remarkable balance, with complex richness held in check by a compact structure and a subtle, underlying intensity. It is a blend of Chenin Blanc, Grenache Blanc, Clairette Blanche, Viognier, Verdelho, Roussanne, Marsanne, Sémillon Gris, Sémillon Blanc, Palomino, Colombard, Grillo, Assyrtiko, Grenache Blanc, and Verdelho. The addition in recent years of plots influenced by limestone has sharpened the wine’s profile, reducing excessive fullness and enhancing its linear precision. Sourced from 24 vineyards spread across Paardeberg, Piketberg, and the St. Helena Bay area, and aged in amphorae, concrete tanks, and old casks, Palladius is Eben Sadie’s flagship white wine, specially crafted for long-term aging. His favorite vintages are 1997, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2023, and 2025. 2027–2045

Wine rated (2025 guide) 95/100
About the wine:
For the first time, the Palladius includes 20% fruit from the limestone soils of the west coast, which, according to Sadie, makes the wine lighter and more mineral-driven. “That was what was missing,” he remarked. This blend now includes 14 grape varieties. The 2023 offers aromas of pressed yellow flowers and subtle hints of walnut and hazelnut in the background. The palate is well-balanced, with a slightly honeyed texture on the attack. It has wonderful, lively depth, a bit more acidity than the ’22, with a long, somewhat salty finish. If possible, let it age for three or four years in the bottle. 2028–2050
