"According to Sadie, this is one of the best wines they've produced at this vineyard: an extraordinary terroir that gives the wine a briny quality with hints of sea spray!"
“The Skerpioen 2024 is a blend of Chenin Blanc and Palomino grown on limestone soils near the coast. The grapes were harvested early this year. “The wine was much fuller-bodied than I expected, and it’s one of the best wines we’ve produced at this site,” according to Sadie. The Chenin component is more prominent than the Palomino at the moment, with aromas of sea spray and shelled oyster shells unfolding on the nose. The palate is fresh and vibrant, very briny, clearly influenced by the marine environment, with the Palomino finally finding its voice on the finish. Superb. 2027–2042” (Vinous 2025)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 95/100 (Extraordinary wine)
Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Made from a vineyard planted with both Chenin Blanc and Palomino, "The Sadie Family 2024 Swartland Die Distriksreeks Skerpioen" features salty and mineral notes, with aromas of crushed oyster shells, honey flowers, and a pronounced maritime salinity, all enveloping a full-bodied yet lively palate. Despite its concentration, this wine has one of the highest natural acidities in the range. It ages for 12 months in old acacia and oak casks. Grown on 90-year-old vines planted in limestone soils near St. Helena Bay, the site’s coastal influence defines its unique character. 2026–2038
