“This spicy, dark yet pure wine offers aromas of licorice, violet, blackberry, cranberry, graphite, and hints of fennel. It is medium-bodied to full-bodied, firm, and concentrated, with fantastic spicy notes. Lots of structure. A tight, firm finish. Tinta Barroca from 50-year-old vines. Best enjoyed after 2026.” (James Suckling 2025)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The Sadie Family 2024 Swartland Die Distriksreeks Treinspoor offers compact, crisp tannins and firm, dark fruit, all within a solid, age-worthy structure. This wine highlights the historical roots of Tinta Barroca in the Swartland, combining power and precision without heaviness. Made from vines planted in 1974 on alluvial soils composed of sandstone, granite, and quartz near Malmesbury, the Treinspoor continues to highlight this Portuguese grape variety, once little known in the Cape. 2026–2040
Vinous
Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
The Treinspoor 2024 is a pure Tinta Barocca that Sadie says she loves, even though he had to discard a large portion of the fruit from this vintage due to the drought—about 35%. It blossoms on the nose with sensual aromas of red fruit, rooibos, Earl Grey, and subtle mineral notes, beautifully defined and concentrated. The palate is medium-bodied, with a lively attack, impressive density and weight, very pure, and perhaps the most sensual of Sadie’s OVS for this vintage. Just a slight hint of crushed black pepper on the finish. Excellent. 2026–2046
