Bouchard Père & Fils - Beaune du Château 1er Cru rouge Domaine 2021

Robert Parker
"The archetype of Beaune Premiers Crus, an intense and velvety Pinot Noir to discover!"
"An intense aroma of sage is paired with bright red fruits—redcurrant, raspberry, and cranberry—as well as a solid dose of well-structured tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Nice length and interesting savory character on the finish. Drink now, but a little more time in the bottle would be beneficial. Best from 2025. (James Suckling 2023)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this large Beaune-based wine merchant founded in 1731 owns more than 142 plots covering 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of premier and grand cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage enables Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds and carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

About wine:
Bursting with aromas of raspberry, sweet spices, and deep earthy notes, the Château's 2021 Beaune Premier Cru is medium-bodied, full, and charming, with lively acidity, mellow tannins, and a salty finish. This high-quality, relatively accessible blend is always reliable, although I confess that I would like some of the great parcels that make it up to be cuvées in their own right.
