"This great Burgundy vintage will sublimate any table lucky enough to have it - simply memorable!"

"The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2016 [...] has a fairly powerful bouquet with well-defined aromas of black cherries, bergamot, fresh figs and raspberry jam. The palate is very well balanced, with ripe, sensual tannins, good acidity, a little oak to assimilate on the finish, but otherwise this is an elegant Clos Vougeot that will rank among the greatest names. 2020-2040" (Robert Parker 2017)

Wine rated (2018 guide) 96/100

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the wine:

Two parcels in this vintage, a rich and racy ensemble, very consensual, a sort of summary of all the qualities of the Côte de Nuits grands crus, perhaps still a little short of pure finesse. But give it time!

About the domain :

From Les Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune trading house, founded in 1731, owns over 142 parcels in 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru. This first-rate winegrowing heritage enables Fréderic Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds, and carefully selected musts for the non-domain whites. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2016 comes solely from the highest parcel of the vineyard with its ancient stone walls, the lower parcel having been torn out. It has a fairly powerful bouquet with well-defined aromas of black cherries, bergamot, fresh figs and raspberry jam. The palate is very well balanced, with ripe, sensual tannins, good acidity, a little oak to assimilate on the finish, but otherwise this is an elegant Clos Vougeot that will rank among the greatest names. 2020-2040

Wine rated (2017 guide) 92-94/100

About the wine:

Medium red. Distinctly violet aromas of boysenberry, violet and lavender. Both dense and juicy, with sharp but harmonious violet fruit flavors, nicely framed and enhanced by pronounced acidity. Firmly tannic but not at all hard, with a lovely touch of sweetness and a hint of saline minerality. Today, I much prefer this wine to the Echézeaux. Winemaker Weber confided that he liked to harvest this Clos Vougeot later in order to obtain a softer acidity and riper tannins, but he said he didn't find this wine very acidic. He did admit, however, that some of these 2016 Côte de Nuits grands crus were close to 14% alcohol.
