Vinous
"Charming balance between freshness and acidity, yet complex and supple."
"With its aromas of black fruit, spice, smoke and plum, Monthélie 1er Cru Les Duresses 2021 is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and lively, with a rather powerful, deep profile. Like its communal-level counterpart, this is a wine of great quality, which will nevertheless require a little patience." (Wine Advocate 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2023) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
From Les Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune trading house, founded in 1731, owns over 142 parcels in 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru. This first-rate winegrowing heritage enables Fréderic Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds, and carefully selected musts for the non-domain whites. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 89-91/100
About the wine:
Monthélie Les Duresses 1er Cru 2021 comes from a 1.8-hectare south-facing slope, one of the last to be harvested. On the nose, scents of wild strawberry and cranberry with a hint of dried rose petals. The palate is supple and fresh, with good acidity. This wine has much more complexity and nuance than the Village, with a palpable minerality on the finish. Worth discovering.
