"A charming balance between freshness and acidity, while remaining complex and supple."
"With its aromas of black fruit, spice, smoke, and plum, the 2021 Monthélie 1er Cru Les Duresses is medium-bodied to full-bodied, fleshy and lively, with a rather powerful and deep profile. Like its counterpart at the communal level, this is a high-quality wine, but one that will require a little patience. (Wine Advocate 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2023 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this large Beaune-based wine merchant founded in 1731 owns more than 142 plots covering 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of premier and grand cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage enables Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds and carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

About wine:
The Monthélie Les Duresses 1er Cru 2021 comes from a 1.8-hectare south-facing hillside, one of the last to be harvested. The nose offers aromas of wild strawberry and cranberry with a hint of dried rose petals. The palate is supple and fresh, with lovely acidity. This wine has much more complexity and nuance than the Village, with a palpable minerality on the finish. Well worth discovering.
