"The latest vintage of this Beaune Premier Cru, made from charming Pinot Noir grapes, is a delight every year!"

"The 2022 vintage of Château de Bouchard's Beaune has a deep color and aromas of ripe blackberries and plums, with earthy, smoky, and spicy notes. The great purity of the fruity aromas combines with a seductive smoothness on the palate, giving way to a firm tannic structure and a lingering finish. [...] — a thoroughly delicious combination. 2027-2055" (Decanter 2023)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this large Beaune-based wine merchant founded in 1731 owns more than 142 plots covering 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of premier and grand cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage enables Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds and carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 93/100

About wine:

The 2022 vintage of Beaune du Château de Bouchard has a deep color and aromas of ripe blackberries and plums, with earthy, smoky, and spicy notes. The great purity of the fruity aromas combines with a seductive smoothness on the palate, giving way to a firm tannic structure and a lingering finish. The grapes are sourced from a blend of 17 different premier cru climats in Beaune; about a third is fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is currently aging in barrels (a third of which are new)—a thoroughly delightful combination. 2027-2055

Wine rating (2024 guide) 90-92/100 (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

Some of Beaune's finest terroirs are blended to produce the Château's 2022 Beaune Premier Cru, a medium-bodied to full-bodied wine that is supple and pure, evoking peonies, sweet spices, and red fruits. This smooth and harmonious cuvée ends with a salty finish.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 16++/20

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended

About wine:

Light to medium red color. Bright, vibrant red fruit, tart and unsweetened. As with Savigny Les Lavières, the tannins dominate the fruit on the palate, but they are supple and compact, without being aggressive. Flavorful and peppery on the palate, not yet charming. Promising in the medium term. 2027-2034

James Suckling

Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) Recommended

About wine:

A youthful, seductive nose of red fruit with delicate earthy notes. This is followed by a generous, medium-bodied to full-bodied palate, where ample, healthy tannins and restrained richness harmonize beautifully, with aromas of cherry pit and licorice enveloping a solid core on the finish. A cuvée from most of the estate's vineyards located in 17 Beaune Premier Cru sites, created in 1907. Made from organically grown grapes. Ready to drink or keep.
