Robert Parker
"The quintessential Beaune Premier Cru—an intense, velvety Pinot Noir worth discovering!"
“An intense aroma of sage blends with vibrant red fruits—redcurrant, raspberry, and cranberry—along with a solid dose of well-structured tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Good length and an interesting, savory character on the finish. Ready to drink now, but a little more time in the bottle would be beneficial. Best from 2025. ” (James Suckling 2023)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune-based wine merchant, founded in 1731, owns more than 142 plots spanning 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage allows Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce approximately 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with the majority of production coming from purchased grapes for the grand reds and from carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success with both whites and reds in recent vintages.

About the wine:
Bursting with aromas of raspberry, sweet spices, and earthy notes, the Château’s 2021 Beaune 1er Cru is medium-bodied, full-flavored, and charming, with lively acidity, well-integrated tannins, and a mineral-driven finish. This high-quality, relatively accessible blend is always reliable, though I must admit I would like to see some of the great plots that make it up released as separate cuvées.
