“A magnificent, delicate texture, aromatic brilliance, smooth and refined, not overpowering, very subtle, long, brilliant, and exceptionally elegant” (The Bettane & Desseauve Guide to French Wines 2014). A Beaune with a superb bouquet evoking aromas of fruit and spices, complemented by a hint of oak. Intense, full-bodied, and delicate on the palate, it possesses an enchanting velvety texture.

Rated wine (2014 guide) 18.5/20 (Wine of exceptional quality)

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the wine:

A wine of magnificent, delicate texture and aromatic brilliance, characterized by smoothness and refinement; not overpowering, very subtle, long-lasting, brilliant, and exceptionally elegant.

About the estate:

From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune-based wine merchant, founded in 1731, owns more than 142 plots spanning 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage allows Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce approximately 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with the majority of production coming from purchased grapes for the grand reds and from carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success with both whites and reds in recent vintages.

All of Bouchard's wines are excellent, but this Beaune is simply extraordinary. This 2011 vintage deserves to be cellared, but once it has aged for a few years, it becomes one of the best Beaunes I've ever tasted. I highly recommend it.
