“A wine from the upper part of the vineyard in this vintage, refined and complex, perfectly reflecting the character of the upper section of the vineyard, with a texture reminiscent of a great Echezeaux, though in this vintage the best Côte de Beaune wines offer more charm and comparable aging potential.” (The Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide) A renowned Grand Cru, Clos Vougeot dates back to 1110, when Cistercian monks began receiving land donations from the village of Vougeot, which they quickly transformed into vineyard plots and retained until the Revolution. Today, approximately 80 owners share this prestigious 50-hectare vineyard. A historic cru.

Wine rated 17.5/20 (Top-rated wine)
Rated estate (2023 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the wine:
This vintage showcases the upper vineyard, offering a refined and complex wine that perfectly embodies the character of the upper part of the vineyard, with a texture reminiscent of a Grand Echezeaux. However, in this vintage, the best Côte de Beaune wines possess greater charm and comparable aging potential.
About the estate:
From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune-based wine merchant, founded in 1731, owns more than 142 plots spanning 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage allows Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce approximately 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with the majority of production coming from purchased grapes for the grand reds and from carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success with both whites and reds in recent vintages.

Rated wine (2019 guide) 90–93/100 (Excellent wine)
Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is not available from the Bouchard estates in the upper part of the Clos, as their lower plots are currently being replanted. The wine reveals notes of sweet blackcurrant, wild berries, incense, rich soil, and smoky new oak, followed by a medium- to full-bodied palate that is ample and layered, revealing good depth and dimension. Vinified with approximately 50% whole clusters, this is a very promising release that will likely fly under the radar.
