"Top vineyard in this vintage, refined and complex, perfectly typical of the upper part of the clos, close to the texture of a great Echezeaux, but in this vintage the best Côte de Beaune wines have more charm and the same longevity." (Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve) A renowned Grand Cru, Clos Vougeot was created in 1110 when Cistercian monks began receiving donations of land from the village of Vougeot, which they quickly transformed into vineyards and kept until the Revolution. Today, around 80 owners share this prestigious 50-hectare vineyard. A historic cru.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About wine:

Top vineyard in this vintage, refined and complex, perfectly typical of the upper part of the clos, close to the texture of a grands echezeaux, but in this vintage the best côte de Beaune wines have more charm and the same longevity.

About the estate:

From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this large Beaune-based wine merchant founded in 1731 owns more than 142 plots covering 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of premier and grand cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage enables Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds and carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.

Wine rating (2019 guide) 90-93/100 (Outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About wine:

The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2017 is elusive from Bouchard's vineyards in the upper part of the Clos, as their lower plots are currently being replanted. The wine reveals notes of sweet blackcurrant, wild berries, incense, rich soil, and smoky new oak, followed by a medium-bodied to full-bodied, ample, and layered palate that reveals good depth and dimension. Vinified with about 50% whole clusters, this is a very promising bottling that will likely fly under the radar.

About wine:

It has sumptuous aromas of violet, flowers, and blue fruits that linger on the palate with a deep layer of ripe, round tannins. Long and mellow finish. Great power and maturity here. Try from 2022.
