Clos de Vougeot
The Clos de Vougeot appellation is a Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Nuits wine region, in the Côte d’Or. Located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, Clos de Vougeot alone occupies a large part of the commune of Vougeot, between Chambolle-Musigny and Flagey-Echezeaux/Vosne-Romanée. Above the Clos, Musigny and Grands-Echezeaux stretch along the hillside. The Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru AOC was established on July 31, 1937.

Founded around 1110 by the nearby Abbey of Cîteaux, which retained ownership until 1789, the Clos de Vougeot is the very embodiment of Burgundy. A single, contiguous plot spanning 50 hectares, it remains enclosed by the walls that surrounded it five centuries ago. Its wine is one of the leading lights among red grands crus. Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru wines are red wines made exclusively from Pinot Noir. The Clos de Vougeot vineyards are planted on shallow, gravelly soil with abundant gravel overlying the Bajocian limestone bedrock. In the middle (around 250 meters), the soil is shallow brown soil over limestone rubble, with a higher clay content. In the lower section, the soil consists of marl rich in clay and fine silt.

As wines of exceptional quality, the Clos de Vougeot wines receive the utmost attention, particularly at Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine Leroy, Château de la Tour, Domaine Méo-Camuzet, and Domaine Joseph Drouhin.
