Cidre

The natural phenomenon of alcoholic fermentation in apples was discovered in ancient times. French-style cider comes in different types: sweet, which is slightly sweet and has an alcohol content of less than 3%; semi-dry, which has an alcohol content of more than 3%; and dry, which is more bitter and has an alcohol content of around 4%. Traditional cider is characterized by a more intense flavor and a slight natural cloudiness, with an alcohol content of over 4%.

Some ciders are flavored. Bottled cider comes in champagne bottles, usually 75 cl, closed with a wire cage and a mushroom cork. Normandy cider is protected by five AOC cider appellations that guarantee product quality through a selection of regional apple varieties and strict management of production methods: Calvados, Calvados Pays d'Auge, Calvados Domfront, Cidre Pays d'Auge, and Pommeau de Normandie.
