Robert Parker

"La Source has notes of waxy apples, and is slightly balsamic and herbal, very pleasant." (Wine Advocate 2019 - Luis Gutiérrez) The excellent 2018 harvest made it possible to create this limited-edition cuvée, rich in flavor and delicate. An ode to pleasure and indulgence!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

The estate overlooks Château-Chalon, perched on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 450 meters. Jean has passed the baton to his daughter Hélène, who came to take over after a first career as a translator in Brussels, and ensure the smooth running of the 15 hectares. Certified organic since 2013, the wines are among the vineyard's successes, particularly the voile wines, which are the estate's great specialty. The yellow wines (4.5 hectares in Château-Chalon) are aged in magnificent vaulted cellars.

About the estate:

Established in 1985 by Jean Berthet-Bondet, former mayor of Château-Chalon and agricultural engineer, as is his wife. Cultivated according to organic farming principles, the 13 hectares of vineyards and vaulted cellars have been managed by their daughter Hélène since 2018.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 88-89/100 (Good wine)

About wine:

The 2018 Côtes du Jura La Source is a new cuvée composed of two-thirds Chardonnay and one-third Savagnin, produced because yields were very good, which meant a surplus of grapes. They don't yet know if this will be a permanent label in their portfolio. La Source has notes of waxy apples, and it is slightly balsamic and herbal, very pleasant.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Chantal and Jean Berthet-Bondet, both agricultural engineers, left the city in 1985 to create this 11-hectare estate, located equally in the Château-Chalon and Côtes du Jura appellations, and certified organic since 2013. Jean's daughter Hélène is now at the helm. The quality is improving in terms of expression and purity of fruit. New vintages and labels for ouillé wines have been cleverly redefined, although the vintages aged under veil remain the undisputed stars of the estate, with a Château-Chalon that could serve as a model for the prestigious appellation.

Review and opinion by Ms. BRIGITTE A. Published on 01/06/2021

Very disappointed by this wine, which has none of the typical characteristics of Jura wines. Not very aromatic—where is the Savagnin? Nice acidity, but a flat, short wine. Ended up in the kitchen. Yet this is a winery I usually appreciate.

Drunk in February 2020 with a cheese platter (Comté, Abondance, Beaufort). A successful pairing thanks to its original aromas and a long finish with white pepper notes from the Savagnin grape.
