"With beautiful purple highlights and concentrated black fruit aromas, well balanced by tailored aging with just the right amount of spice, this 100% Pinot has the velvety smoothness of a Burgundy and the freshness of the region. A very nice Jura version, especially at this price." (La Tulipe Rouge 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve
Winery rated 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About the estate:
The estate overlooks Château-Chalon, perched on a rocky outcrop at an altitude of 450 meters. Jean has passed the baton to his daughter Hélène, who came to take over after a first career as a translator in Brussels, and ensure the smooth running of the 15 hectares. Certified organic since 2013, the wines are among the vineyard's successes, particularly the voile wines, which are the estate's great specialty. The yellow wines (4.5 hectares in Château-Chalon) are aged in magnificent vaulted cellars.

About the estate:
Established in 1985 by Jean Berthet-Bondet, former mayor of Château-Chalon and agricultural engineer, as is his wife. Cultivated according to organic farming principles, the 13 hectares of vineyards and vaulted cellars have been managed by their daughter Hélène since 2018.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
Chantal and Jean Berthet-Bondet, both agricultural engineers, left the city in 1985 to create this 11-hectare estate, located equally in the Château-Chalon and Côtes du Jura appellations, and certified organic since 2013. Jean's daughter Hélène is now at the helm. The quality is improving in terms of expression and purity of fruit. New vintages and labels for ouillé wines have been cleverly redefined, although the vintages aged under veil remain the undisputed stars of the estate, with a Château-Chalon that could serve as a model for the prestigious appellation.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100
About wine:
The Côtes du Jura La Queue Au Renard 2022, a single-varietal Pinot Noir, looks promising. Aged for 14 months in barrels (approximately 5% new barrels), this is only the second edition of this cuvée, following the inaugural 2020 edition. Red fruit and spicy, the 2022 brings a delicious floral touch and subtle notes of cedar on the aromatic profile. On the palate, the concentration is solid and the fruit is generously juicy. The dry woody tannins are quite pronounced at the moment, which is why I recommend leaving the 2022 for at least two more years in the bottle.

Note and opinion by Mr. FREDERIC B. Published on 11/13/2024
A 100% Pinot Noir that offers a refreshing change from the polished wines of Burgundy. Its rustic character, with slightly rough tannins, makes for a pleasant take on this grape variety. It has good length and fruit on the palate. I find it more interesting to drink young for its liveliness. Good value for money compared to standard Burgundy AOPs; opens up with black pudding and apples.
