"100% Pinot Noir du Jura, an attractive value for money!"

"With beautiful purplish highlights and concentrated black fruit aromas, well framed by tailor-made ageing and just the right amount of spice, this 100% Pinot has the velvetiness of a Burgundy and the freshness of a local. A lovely Jurassienne version, especially at this price. (La Tulipe Rouge 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

The estate dominates the whole of Château-Chalon, perched on its rocky outcrop at an altitude of 450 metres. Jean handed over the reins to his daughter Hélène, who took over from him after a first life as a translator in Brussels, and ensures the smooth running of the 15-hectare estate. Certified organic since 2013, the wines are among the vineyard's success stories, particularly the sailing wines, the estate's great specialty. The yellow wines (4.5 hectares of Château-Chalon) are matured in magnificent vaulted cellars.

About the domain :

Domaine created in 1985 by Jean Berthet-Bondet, former mayor of Château-Chalon and an agricultural engineer, like his wife. Conducted according to the rules of organic farming, the 13 ha of vines and vaulted cellars have been managed since 2018 by their daughter Hélène.

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the domain :

Chantal and Jean Berthet-Bondet, both agricultural engineers, left the city in 1985 to create this 11-hectare estate, located equally in the Château-Chalon appellation and Côtes du Jura, and certified organic since 2013. Jean's daughter Hélène is now at the helm. Quality is progressing in the direction of fruit expression and purity. New cuvées and wine labels have been cleverly redefined, even if the cuvées matured under sail remain the undisputed stars of the domaine, with a Château-Chalon that can serve as a model for the prestigious appellation.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 90/100

About the wine:

Côtes du Jura La Queue Au Renard 2022, a single-varietal Pinot Noir, is shaping up well. Aged for 14 months in barrels (around 5% new barrels), this is only the second edition of this cuvée, following the inaugural 2020 edition. Red-fruited and spicy, the 2022 brings a delicious floral touch and presents subtle notes of cedar on the aromatic profile. On the palate, the concentration is solid and the juicy fruit generous. The dry woody tannins are quite pronounced at the moment, so I recommend leaving the 2022 in bottle for at least two more years.

Note and review by M. FREDERIC B. Published on 13/11/2024

A 100% pinot noir that's a welcome change from the polished wines of Burgundy. Its country side, a little rustic in its tannins, gives a pleasant version of the grape variety. The palate is chewy, with good length and fruit. I find it more interesting to drink young for its pep. Q/p ratio on a par with Burgundy's basic Aop wines; open with an apple boudin noir.
