“A Taste of Côte-Rôtie”

“The Syrah immediately reveals its spicy character. The nose is peppery and spicy. This is a true expression of Syrah: the palate is rich and dense, with a beautiful structure. The wine is long and full-bodied, with well-integrated oak.” (Jeb Dunnuck)

Rated estate (2022 guide) 2*Stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

This family-run estate, now in its third generation, produces a wide range of full-bodied wines across some 70 hectares, in a modern and ambitious style that ranks them among the must-try wines of the Ventoux region. Now managed by Frédéric and Alexandre Chaudière, the vineyard features nine grape varieties grown on clay-limestone gravel slopes at an altitude of 300 meters. The wines are vinified with care.

Rated (2020 guide) 90–92/100 (An outstanding wine)

Rated estate (2021 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The Ventoux Artemia 2019 is a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache, aged in equal parts in barrels, demi-muids, and concrete tanks. Grown on a high-altitude gravelly limestone plateau, it exhibits a more northern style of Syrah, with floral and herbaceous notes on the nose and hints of crushed pepper. Medium-bodied, it is fresh and lively, yet features firm tannins and savory notes of black olives on the long finish.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 92/100

Rated Estate (2023 Guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The Syrah immediately reveals its spicy character. The nose is peppery and spicy. This is a true expression of Syrah: the palate is rich and dense, with a beautiful structure. The wine is long and full-bodied, with well-integrated oak.

About the estate:

The history of this estate began in the 1970s, when the Chaudière grandparents restored the château and part of the vineyard. Paul and Edith then set the course by leaving the cooperative and focusing on terroir selection. Since 2000, their sons, Frédéric and Alexandre, have been overseeing the future of this vast vineyard. We are captivated by the stylistic shift in the wines: they have truly gained in finesse and flavor, and beautifully reflect the freshness of the terroir.
