“We find the vitality, joy, and purity of the 2014 Les Sens du Fruit, a delicious, juicy, and distinctive white wine. ” (The Guide to the Best Wines of France 2016 - RVF) A white wine with lovely length on the palate—rich, full-bodied, and generous—retaining good freshness with a fairly pronounced mineral and salty note on the finish... Very charming!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommended production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

Isabelle Carles and Franck Pascal, who moved to Vélines in 2000, have chosen to produce pure, sulfur-free wines that are both easy to drink and fruity—wines meant to be enjoyed. Certified biodynamic since the 2011 vintage, the 19-hectare estate has always been managed according to the principles of organic farming, in order to preserve both the environment and their health. It was a wise decision, for without falling into the trap of natural wine—where fermentation runs wild—they produce a lovely, fairly consistent range, crafted according to the terroir, without technical fuss, in the Burgundian style.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

We rediscover the vibrancy, joy, and purity of Les Sens du Fruit 2014, a delicious, juicy, and distinctive white wine.

About the estate:

Located on clay-limestone soil overlooking the right bank of the Dordogne, this estate has emerged as one of the driving forces behind Bergerac’s renaissance. Isabelle Carles and Franck Pascal craft lively, pure wines with intense character and remarkable freshness, all offered at very affordable prices. The reds are sulfur-free and contain no additives, even at bottling. This approach is masterfully executed: after aeration, the wines remain clean and well-structured, with perfect, natural acidity.

Tasted again in 2019 and then in 2020. The effervescence has faded, giving way to a well-balanced wine.

A very (too?) unique—even puzzling—wine. A very pronounced apple flavor (intentional or oxidized?). Pleasant (but nothing more), though, once the initial surprise wears off!

Same goes for the estate's red. It's simply undrinkable.

This isn't wine (anymore?): completely oxidized, tasting more like a rotten apple... absolutely awful on the palate... it ended up down the drain. No response from the 1Jour1Vin website 1Jour1Vin the appalling quality of these bottles...

This product isn't wine; it's cider. Poor-quality cork, sparkling wine (so it has likely undergone fermentation, which makes sense if little sulfur was added), apple aroma (oxidation?)… The winemaking process was poorly executed. A product like this shouldn't be sold.

I couldn't bring myself to drink it—it was oxidized and musty—so I threw it away, just like I did with my Argentina, so I could buy it
