Gaillac
Located in the northern part of the Tarn department, the Gaillac appellation covers 2,500 hectares spread across 73 municipalities, with AOC production totaling more than 165,000 hl.
The Gaillac Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée are characterized by extraordinary richness: whether dry white, sparkling, or red, you’ll always discover—whether in a winery or a cellar—a touch of finesse here, a more intense aromatic bouquet there, or even unexpected red fruit aromas elsewhere.
Today, the appellation comprises about a hundred private wineries and three cooperative wineries. The variety of terroirs (three in total) and the age of the vineyards allow Gaillac to offer a diverse and traditional selection of grape varieties. Consequently, this diversity in the Gaillac vineyards results in a wide variety of wines, comprising a diverse range of dry, sweet, and semi-sparkling white wines, as well as reds, rosés, and sparkling wines.
The Gaillac vineyards benefit from two key influences:
- the mild oceanic climate, which reduces the risk of frost and ensures good water supply to the vines
- the Mediterranean heat in summer and fall, accentuated by the Autan wind, which ensures proper ripening of the grapes and favorable weather during the harvest.
The vineyard’s ambitions are now driven by a new generation of winemakers, who combine their fathers’ passion with the pragmatism gained from high-level training. In addition to the latest winemaking technologies, their expertise also extends to business and management techniques.
