“Every 30 seconds, the wine transforms: no sooner have you savored one aroma than it shifts—moving from mint to curry and saffron, and finally to tobacco, cocoa, and parchment. The equally exceptional color adds its own nuance to the overall profile. On the palate, candied orange and delicate bitter notes confirm the exceptional character of this sweet wine. ” (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2020 - RVF) A concentration of indulgence and finesse.

Wine rated 17/20 (Top-rated wine)
About the wine:
Here is one of the most remarkable wines in the range—which includes quite a few. The nose is very open, dominated by notes of wild strawberries and honey, and the palate is magnificent. A wine of great style.

About the estate:
The Plageoles family has left an indelible mark on the recent history of wine in Gaillac. Robert, followed by Bernard and Myriam—who brilliantly took over the reins—were pioneers in championing local grape varieties and traditional winemaking techniques. The next generation is gradually taking over, led by Bernard’s sons, Florent and Romain, who devote themselves body and soul to the twelve varieties in their vineyard, including the delicious Prunelart, the extremely rare Verdanel, and the quartet of Mauzac (green, red, pink, and black). Unconcerned with trends and off the beaten path, the estate continues to produce, with the utmost care, exclusively single-varietal wines endowed with strong personalities. This work of the mind, heart, and hands is fully reflected in a range of cuvées that aim for purity, integrity, and originality.

A real gem—admittedly a bit pricey, but so unique. It's not a Sauternes—it's a Gaillac! But it holds its own!
