Montagny
The Montagny and Montagny Premier Cru appellations are located at the southern tip of the Côte Chalonnaise, in Saône-et-Loire, and encompass four villages: Buxy, Montagny-lès-Buxy, Jully-lès-Buxy, and Saint-Vallerin. Montagny was granted AOC status in 1936. Among the wines of Montagny, 49 climats have been granted the Montagny Premier Cru appellation, including: Les Bouchots, Le Clouzot, Les Pidances, Les Las, Les Gouresses, Les Burnins, Les Maroques, Les Beaux Champs, Les Macles, Creux de Beaux Champs, L'Epaule, Les Platières, etc. Among these climats, the wines offered by Domaine Stéphane Aladame or Maison Chanson Père et Fils are particularly noteworthy.

The terroir of the Montagny AOC faces east and southeast. The slopes of the Bajocian hillsides are home to vineyards at altitudes between 250 and 400 meters, on marly or calcareous and marly soils. The Lower Triassic sandstone outcrop at Buxy is in contact with the Kimmeridgian, the geological formation of Chablis wines.

Montagny wines are exclusively white wines made solely from the Chardonnay grape variety. The appellation’s approximately 310 hectares allow for an annual wine production of around 18,000 hectoliters.
