“An iconic and under-the-radar Volnay 1er Cru, both generous and elegant”

This ruby-red 1er Cru combines richness and generosity on the nose, without losing any of the elegance and finesse characteristic of Volnay. On the palate, it offers a rich, concentrated body with excellent aging potential. As its name suggests, this Climat takes its name from an ancient oak grove that disappeared long ago.

Rated estate (2023 guide) 4*Stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)

About the estate:

From Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune-based wine merchant, founded in 1731, owns more than 142 plots spanning 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. This first-rate wine-growing heritage allows Frédéric Weber, a talented winemaker previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce approximately 600,000 bottles out of the total three million units produced here each year, with the majority of production coming from purchased grapes for the grand reds and from carefully selected musts for the whites other than those from the estate. Impressive success with both whites and reds in recent vintages.
