Vin de Table
In France, there are four levels of wine classification, regulated by specific laws: Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), Appellation d'Origine Vin de Qualité Supérieure, Vin de Pays, and Vin de Table.
Vin de Table accounts for 40 to 50% of total French production. These are everyday wines. It is also the lowest classification in France. There are few production rules to follow. The Vin de Table designation was adopted in the first EU regulations on wine, which took effect in the 1970s. The label may not include any identifying geographical location other than the country. Typically, Table Wines are blends, mixtures of different grape varieties and grapes from all over France and sometimes even from different European Union countries. Wines made from grape varieties harvested in France bear the designation "French Table Wine."
