RVF

“A Merlot blend with wild aromas of brambles. It offers a highly concentrated wine with soft, lively tannins. What character!” (RVF Special Vintage 2014 – June 2015) A rich and dense wine, with very well-integrated oak that complements its ever-present, full-bodied fruit. A must-try!

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

Isabelle Carles and Franck Pascal, who moved to Vélines in 2000, have chosen to produce pure, sulfur-free wines that are both easy to drink and fruity—wines meant to be enjoyed. Certified biodynamic since the 2011 vintage, the 19-hectare estate has always been managed according to the principles of organic farming, in order to preserve both the environment and their health. It was a wise decision, for without falling into the trap of “natural wine”—where fermentation runs wild—they produce a lovely, fairly consistent range of wines, crafted with a focus on terroir, without technical fuss, in the Burgundian style.

Rated estate (2021 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

A Merlot with wild aromas of brambles. It offers a highly concentrated wine with soft, lively tannins. What character!

About the estate:

Located on clay-limestone soil overlooking the right bank of the Dordogne, this estate has emerged as one of the driving forces behind Bergerac’s revival. Isabelle Carles and Franck Pascal craft lively, pure wines with intense character and great freshness, which they offer at very affordable prices. The reds are sulfur-free and contain no additives, even at bottling. This approach is executed with precision: after aeration, the wines remain clean and well-structured, with perfect, natural acidity.

This wine didn't win over everyone at the table. The rather off-putting aroma gives way to a woody flavor that isn't entirely unpleasant.

Horrible. The bottles ended up in the sink. Unworthy of the ratings in the guidebooks. I won't be buying from this winery again.

I usually like it, but not this time.... The fruit is completely overshadowed by a loud, cloying woody note... I don't recognize the ClassIK that I love.
