Val de Loire
Since August 2009, Vins de Pays wines have benefited from an official sign of quality, recognized at European level: the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
The Vins de Pays category, alongside Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée and Vins de France (formerly Vin de table), is rigorously regulated by EU wine regulations and precise specifications defining production conditions.
They share with AOC wines precise production rules. But the flexibility of using different grape varieties also allows winemakers to express their creativity and produce original wines.
On the other hand, compared with Vins de France, they offer consumers a guarantee of origin, materialized by the name of their denomination, and a guarantee of quality through compliance with specifications and the ensuing controls (control of grape varieties, yields, analytical and organoleptic controls).
The "Vins de Pays du Val de Loire " regional denomination is now part of the French Vins de Pays family, covering 14 departments in the Val de Loire wine-growing basin: Allier, Cher, Indre, Indre-et-Loire, Loir-et-Cher, Loire-Atlantique, Loiret, Maine-et-Loire, Nièvre, Puy-de-Dôme, Sarthe, Deux-Sèvres, Vendée and Vienne.
Since their creation in 1981, the vins de pays ligériens have refocused on quality production and the professionalization of their operators. With its 1,600 winegrowers, some fifteen cooperative wineries and a hundred wine merchants, the Val de Loire Indication Géographique Protégée has a real economic weight within the wine production of the Loire Valley basin.
Thanks to its northern location and temperate climate, the Indication Géographique Protégée du Val de Loire is characterized by the freshness, vivacity and finesse of its wines.
Vins de Pays du Val de Loire-IGP grape varieties are traditional and well adapted to the diversity of climates and soils found in this vast region.
White grape varieties, for the most part vinified dry, are characterized by their delicate fruity and floral aromas.
The rosés are light, lively and refreshing, while the reds, with their light, sometimes full-bodied structure, are characterized by their suppleness.
