Savigny-lès-Beaune

The Savigny-lès-Beaune Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) is a village appellation in the Côte de Beaune region of the Côte-d'Or department. Recognized in 1937, the Savigny-lès-Beaune AOC covers only the commune of the same name. It includes 22 classified climats designated as Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru, which may also appear after the appellation.

The vineyards of Savigny-lès-Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru are situated on hillsides that rise gently at first and then more steeply, at altitudes ranging from 250 to 400 meters, where one finds the alluvial cone of the Rhoin and then the geology of the Montagne de Corton. On the Pernand-Vergelesses side, the south-facing slopes benefit from gravelly soils dotted with iron-rich oolite. As the terrain descends, the reddish-brown limestone becomes more clayey and stony. Opposite, the hillside faces east on limestone soils with sandy undertones.

Savigny-lès-Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru wines are red wines made exclusively from Pinot Noir and, to a lesser extent, white wines from the Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grape varieties. The wines from Domaine Leroy and Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils, as well as those offered by Joseph Drouhin or Maison Louis Jadot, are highly recommended for lovers of this appellation.
