Savigny-lès-Beaune

The Savigny-lès-Beaune appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) is a village appellation in the Côte de Beaune region of Côte d’Or. Recognized in 1937, the Savigny-lès-Beaune AOC covers only the commune of the same name. It includes 22 climats classified as Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru, which may also appear after the appellation.

The vineyards of Savigny-lès-Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru are located on gently sloping hillsides, rising to an altitude of 250 to 400 meters, where the alluvial cone of the Rhoin and then the geology of the Montagne de Corton can be found. On the Pernand-Vergelesses side, the south-facing exposure benefits from gravelly soils dotted with ferruginous oolite. Further down, the reddish-brown limestone becomes more clayey and stony. Opposite, the hillside faces east on sandy limestone soils.

Savigny-lès-Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru wines are red wines made exclusively from Pinot Noir and, to a lesser extent, white wines made from Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc grapes. The wines of Domaine Leroy, Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils, Joseph Drouhin, and Maison Louis Jadot are recommended for lovers of this appellation.
