Château du Glana
is owned by Gabriel Meffre, the famous nurseryman from the Vaucluse, who acquired it in 1961. Over the following years, he increased Château du Glana’s vineyard surface area from 5 to 43 hectares, with the successive acquisition of several parcels belonging to Château Lagrange, a 3rd Grand Cru Saint-Julien, near Bordeaux. Jean-Paul Meffre now oversees the property, with the help of his two sons, Ludovic and Julien. They have great ambitions for the domaine, wishing to develop its full potential. Surrounded by some of the finest Grands Crus Classés Médoc, Château du Glana has made tremendous strides in quality since 1999.
Much thought has gone into the extensive work carried out over the years at Château Glana and its vineyards have been completely reorganised. Château Glana now produces modern wines embodying the elegance, spirit and authenticity of the exceptional terroirs from which they hail. The complete restoration of Château du Glana’s facilities (vat room, grape reception area, ageing cellar, offices and reception room), the painstaking work carried out in the vineyards, and the invaluable winemaking advice from Professor Denis Dubourdieu, have come together in a judicious balance between modern methods and respect for tradition. The result is velvety, complex wines, enjoyable when young, yet capable of ageing for over ten years. Château du Glana and Pavilion de Glana, its second wine, come from sustainably-grown vineyards growing Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc on a soil of Garonne gravel.
