Vin de Table
In France, there are four grades of wine classification, regulated by specific laws: Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC), Appellation d'Origine Vin de Qualité Supérieure, Vin de Pays, and Vin de Table.
Vin de Table accounts for 40 to 50% of total French production. These are everyday wines. It is also the lowest classification in France. There are few production rules to follow. The designation Vin de Table was adopted in the first EU regulations on wine in the 1970s. The label cannot include any geographical identification other than the country. Typically, table wines are blends of different grape varieties and grapes from all over France and sometimes even from different European Union countries. Wines made from grapes harvested in France are labeled "Vin de Table Français" (French table wine).
