Vineyard rated : 1*Star (A reliable production, recommendable, in line with expectations from the appellation(s))

About the vineyard : With its 24 hectares, this domaine is one of the greatest classics of the Côte de Beaune, with vines on Maranges, Santenay, Volnay, Pommard, Meursault, Puligny and Chassagne. Roger Belland and his daughter Julie practise sustainable agriculture. Here is celebrated the virtues of the clos Pitois, a monopoly of Chassagne in the area of Morgeot, in white and red. The property has also the largest parcel of Criots-bâtard-Montrachet.

Les Meilleurs Vins de France - Gault Millau

Vineyard rated : 5*Étoiles (Production remarquable)

About the vineyard : Located at Santenay, border with the Côte chalonnaise, the property operates approximately 23 hectares spread over multiple known appellations, such as Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet, or lesser-known, such as Santenay or Maranges. The vines are covered and chemical weedkillers proscribed ; the thinning out the leaves is also part of the practices here. Since 2003 Julie (6th generation) has joined her father, Roger Belland, at the head of the operation. She is devoted to winemaking and farming. Using native yeasts, the domaine prefers also the practice of 'soft' extractions, acting in the long run..

Vineyard rated : Sélectionné (Nous rappelons que ce guide est un palmarès et qu'à ce titre, tous les domaines qui y figurent, même sans étoile, représentent, à nos yeux, l'excellence de la production française.)

About the vineyard : This very large estate of Santenay has a prestigious range of Premiers Crus, supplemented by a Grand cru - the largest parcel of Criots-bâtard-Montrachet. Since 2003, Roger has been supported by his daughter Julie who has reduced the percentage of new oak and reduced the aging to twelve months. It produces regularly beautiful white wine with durability and quite full-bodied reds, sometimes a little austere, thus intake of whole grapes (depending on the appellation) should be refined. Since 1986, he has completely redesigned its production criteria covering his crops to get the regularity we know him for now.

A village appellation in the Côte de Beaune (Côte-d'Or) established in 1936, Pommard is entirely contained within the village of the same name. The lovely town of Pommard lies between Beaune and Volnay, just at the point where the vine-covered hillside turns slightly to the west. Since the Middle Ages Pommard has been considered “the flower of wines” from the area around Beaune: it ...
