Janisson Baradon et Fils
is owned by the Janisson family, who have been working the vines for five generations. They work about 9 hectares (22 acres) of vineyards in Epernay as well as parcels in Chouilly and Brimont. All vineyard work adheres to ecologically friendly methods and the principles of lutte raisonnée: there is grass cover in every parcel to protect the biological workings of the soil. Sitting on the heights of Epernay, this lovely house was created by Georges Baradon, a Champagne riddler, and his son-in-law, a cooper, in 1922.
Run today by Richard Janisson with the help of his sons, Maxence and Cyril, Champagne Janisson Baradon always seeks to reaffirm the character of their Champagnes and the expression of terroir, harvesting at peak maturity to help achieve these goals. The wines are matured in vats and small oak barrels, and they age for at least three years in the depths of the chalk cellars, in total darkness. Blending is a family affair, with each cuvée expressing the house style, which balances finesse and subtlety. A genuine grower Champagne!
