Domaine Alain Brumont
is a two-hour drive from the city of Bordeaux, near Pau and Tarbes, facing the Pyrenees. The eponymous proprietor, who also owns Château Montus
and Château Bouscassé
, runs this property of 180 hectares (445 acres) in the appellations of Madiran, Pacherenc du Vic Bilh, and Côtes de Gascogne. Brumont has made important changes and was the first to choose the best parcels for each grape variety, plant the best clones, double the number of vines per hectare in order to double their potential, reduce yields, and adapt the fermentation process to each variety. He was also the first in the appellation to mature his wines in new barrels.
Today, Domaine Alain Brumont is considered a rising star, original and forward-looking in his style and concept. With wines that get better every year, Brumont's goal is no longer to be in the “top 100 club” of winegrowers but to rank among the top 20 or 30 producers in the world, thanks to the excellent terroirs he works and the wines he creates.
